Dimapur: The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has officially announced its participation in the upcoming Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections in Nagaland. The announcement was made by Yitachu, the party spokesperson and a former education minister, following a State Executive Meeting of the Nagaland unit of LJP (RV) at the Tourist Lodge in Dimapur on May 18. The meeting was reportedly called to discuss the upcoming ULB elections.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Yitachu elaborated on the various aspects of daily life impacted by ULBs and informed that LJP (RV) has decided to participate in the elections “whether with party ticket or without party ticket.” He emphasized that party loyalists and members will participate in these local body elections.
When queried about the number of candidates the party intends to field, Yitachu confirmed that LJP (RV) has candidates in the Municipal Council and Town Councils across the region but refrained from specifying the exact number of candidates.
Addressing the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) decision to abstain from the upcoming elections, Yitachu stated that while he has no comment on ENPO’s stance, he believes the people should participate as these elections are crucial for their welfare.
Regarding past controversies and outrage surrounding women’s reservation in Nagaland, Yitachu remarked, “It is not required to open up past wounds. What has been positive that we see now – let us march ahead.”
On the question of women contesting from the LJP (RV) party, he stated that while they are yet to identify specific candidates, “Wherever there is a reservation, it has to be a woman candidate. So, if we have party women candidates, definitely we will fight.”
The announcement marks a significant step for LJP (RV) as it prepares for the upcoming ULB elections, focusing on inclusive participation and addressing local issues impacting the populace.
