Agartala: Tripura Police and BSF on Monday handed over the mortal remains of the Bangladeshi smuggler Saddam Hossain (23) to Border Guards of Bangladesh. Hossain was killed in BSF firing earlier on Sunday. The Father of the deceased Achkir Miah was also present when the Indian authorities handed over the body so that his family could perform the post-death rituals without any hindrances.
Speaking on the issue, SDPO Kailashahar Jayanta Karmakar said, “On Sunday, two Bangladeshi nationals suffered bullet injuries in the Indian territories under the jurisdiction of Irani police station. One of them died on the spot while the other could escape with his leg hurt by a bullet. The deceased is identified as Saddam Hossain. His accomplice who succeeded in jumping the borders is known to be Siddik Miah.”
While the deceased was brought to Unakoti district hospital the injured person was admitted to Osmani Medical located in the Sylhet district of Bangladesh.
Soon after the incident, the BSF authorities convened a flag meeting with the Bangladesh counterpart—the Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB)—to get the matter resolved. After a long discussion, both forces jumped to the conclusion that the mortal remains of the deceased smuggler should be handed over to his family. After due procedures and autopsy, the body was handed over on Monday.
It is worthy to be noted here that the BSF trooper Mohan Lal Singh who also suffered injuries in the border confrontation is also critically ill and being treated at Unakoti district hospital. The doctors are contemplating shifting him to the GBP hospital for better treatment. There are sharp cuts on his body which indicates that sharp weapons were used to inflict injuries on the BSF trooper.
Earlier, a BSF statement said that a group of 25 to 30 miscreants passing goods breaching the barbed wear fencing launched an attack on a comparatively smaller posse of BSF troops in retaliation to the latter’s objection to the illegal activities. Mohan Lal Singh was thrashed mercilessly compelling him to shoot with Pump Action Gun in self-defense.
