Shillong: In recent years, the Central Recruitment Board (CRB) of the Meghalaya Police has encountered instances of touts, prompting a cautionary note for candidates applying for the 2,968 advertised vacancies in the police department.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and CRB member, Davis Marak, warned that candidates may come across individuals claiming to be associated with the recruitment board or Meghalaya Police, offering assistance in clearing exams, be it the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), written exams, or interviews.

“On behalf of the board, I would like to emphasize that candidates should not respond to such comments or individuals. These are fraudulent claims as per the CRB, and we have ensured that each stage of the recruitment will be transparent. We will not permit such individuals to take advantage,” cautioned Marak.

Highlighting the vulnerability of candidates who may be desperate for employment, Marak urged them to be cautious, as falling for such scams could lead to financial losses.

Recalling past incidents, Marak mentioned that during the previous recruitment, there were cases where criminal charges were filed, leading to arrests. He appealed to candidates to trust the transparent recruitment process conducted by the Meghalaya Police.

CRB Chairman, Francis G Kharshiing, assured that they have appointed Superintendents of Police (SPs) and commandants to oversee the main process. Kharshiing urged candidates facing difficulties with computer or internet access to visit any SPs office or commandants office for assistance, instead of relying on individuals requesting money.

Candidates were strongly advised not to entertain or be misled by such individuals. The CRB provided a helpline number (6033164273) for any doubts during office hours (10 am to 5 pm) and an email address (policetrg-meg@gov.in).

This recruitment, one of the largest undertaken by the Meghalaya Police, follows the completion of the 2019 recruitment delayed by court cases and COVID-19. Due to the manpower shortage in the police department, it is expected to address vacancies over the next two years.
