Guwahati: In 2018, the vibrant world of mountain biking in Northeast India witnessed the birth of a thrilling event – the Assam Downhill Championship (ADC). Conceived by Spokehub Racing, an initiative supported wholeheartedly by the Northeast’s mountain biking community, the ADC has evolved into one of the region’s biggest MTB (Mountain Biking) events. As it gears up for its eagerly awaited fourth edition on February 25, 2023, in Guwahati, the event is breaking new ground with international participation, welcoming three riders from Bhutan.

From its inception, the ADC aimed to provide a premier platform for downhill riders across India to test their mettle and foster a sense of camaraderie among biking enthusiasts. This year’s event boasts over 60 registrations, making it a thriving hub for both seasoned riders and novices.

What sets the ADC apart is not just its scale but its unique contribution to the discovery and promotion of local talent. A remarkable legacy has emerged, with four out of six riders representing India at the Asian Mountain Biking Championship in the Downhill discipline hailing from Northeast India. These riders, integral to the event since its inception, showcase the impact and reach of the Assam Downhill Championship.

Adding an international flavor to the excitement, the inclusion of three Bhutanese riders marks a significant milestone for the ADC. It signifies the growing reputation of the event beyond national borders, underlining its status as a must-attend competition in the mountain biking calendar.

Spokehub Racing, the driving force behind the ADC, takes pride in its in-house racing team, Spokehub Racing. This team is dedicated to discovering and nurturing cycling talents across Northeast India, with a specific focus on mountain biking. Beyond the thrill of competitions, Spokehub Racing is committed to developing new trails and organizing mountain biking events, aiming to position Northeast India as a premier mountain biking destination in the country.

Guided by values of fun, inclusivity, and community, Spokehub Racing seeks to create meaningful opportunities through cycling. The ADC, as a flagship event, exemplifies these values, drawing together the entire mountain biking community of the Northeast. It stands as a testament to the collective effort and passion of riders who contribute to its success, making it truly a rider’s own event.

Downhill mountain biking, the heartbeat of the ADC, unfolds on steep, rough terrain, featuring jumps, drops, rock gardens, and various obstacles. Governed by the Union Cycliste Internationale, downhill mountain biking has gained prominence, with racers earning UCI points to qualify for World Cup races. The Cycling Association of India’s MTB Nationals serves as a platform for riders to showcase their skills and compete at the national level.

As the countdown begins for the fourth edition of the Assam Downhill Championship, the anticipation and excitement among riders and enthusiasts alike are palpable. It’s not just a race; it’s a celebration of adrenaline, camaraderie, and the unwavering spirit of the mountain biking community in Northeast India. Stay tuned for the thrilling descent down the slopes of Guwahati, where the spirit of adventure takes center stage at the Assam Downhill Championship 2023.
