Agartala: In a shocking incident, a 19-year-old housewife, was denied entry to her in-laws’ house for giving birth to a girl child at Rowa village under Panisagar sub-division of North Tripura district.
Rubi Begum (19), a resident of Panisagar, married Imran Hossain of Rowa, a neighbouring village, about one and half years ago. Soon after, problems began to brew within the family as her in-laws pressured her for money.
Her father, Salim Miah, said soon after marriage, he was told by her in-laws to give money for the construction of a house. “It was quite difficult for me, but I arranged the Rs 1.4 lakh by selling a piece of land and handed over the cash with a feeling that my daughter would stay in a good house. Instead of spending the money for the house, my son-in-law bought a motorcycle and sold it after a few months. Their demands did not stop here, they kept sending my daughter, and when I refused, they started torturing her,” said Salim Miah, a lorry driver by profession.
When Rubi gave birth to a baby girl, her in-laws denied accepting her, and Imran even tried to divorce her by announcing triple talaq over the phone.
“My in-laws took me to a private Nursing Home of Kailashahar under Unakoti district. As soon as they heard the news that I had become the mother of a baby girl, my husband and his parents silently returned home. My father went to the hospital on hearing the good news and brought me and my child to his home. My father tried to connect with them, and even I tried to talk to my husband, but he is not willing to take us back. They are saying that they can’t take the child’s responsibility,” said Rubi.
Deprived of her rights, Rubi has lodged an FIR with the Panisagar police station.
