Kohima: Sofia Livimi Swu, one of Nagaland’s youngest authors, on Monday released two more books titled “Alphabet Poems” and “Whimsical Poems for Kids” published by PenThrill Publications, here in Kohima.
The young author and illustrator, who recently turned nine, advocated for a reading culture in the society, as she said that reading as many books as possible helps people to learn new things.
As she addressed a gathering of people who attended the launch of her books at Hotel Japfü, the young author shared her dream of becoming a baker or an artist, or a gardener when she grows up. Swu is a class IV student at Bumblebee Inclusive School in Kohima.
Sofia had made her writing debut at 7 as the youngest author in Nagaland when she published her book “My adventure in Fairyland” in March last year. Later in December, her book titled “My Adventure in Christmas Land” was released during the Nagaland Literature Festival.
Shekali Swu, Sofia’s mother, shared about the young author’s love for drawing and storytelling. According to her mother, Sofia was introduced to phonics class at the age of five which helped her to read on her own at an early stage.
She shared that her daughter has inculcated the habit of reading books and even began to express her ideas through verbally or in written form, from a very young age.
Agriculture Production Commissioner Y Kikheto Sema, who released the books, challenged the young writer to write on topics related to the ecosystem and biodiversity.
As he highlighted that the best profession is that of a writer and author, he urged the community to pen down thoughts about relevant issues that confronts the society.
Sema also encouraged the people to support writers and help the very few local writers of the state.
Special educator and proprietor of Bumblebee Inclusive School, Kopele Mero Tepa acknowledged Sofia’s parents as he said that the first environment where children are exposed to various forms of learning is at home.
Describing Sofia as an outspoken, carefree, and an expressive child, the educator praised the young author for her exceptional writing and reading skills.
The newly published books became PenThrill’s 51st and 52nd books.
