Imphal: The nomination paper of Lunkhopao Haokip, the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for Chandel assembly constituency, has been rejected during the scrutiny for the second phase election in Manipur on Tuesday, official sources said.
However, the reason behind the rejection is yet to be known by the time of filing this copy.
Sources from the party informed that the party will be taking legal action challenging the rejection.
For the Chandel (ST) assembly constituency, four candidates had filed their nominations that include two candidates of Naga People’s Front (NPF). Tonsin Willingson of the NPF, the fourth candidate, has withdrawn his nomination on Tuesday.
The last date of withdrawal of candidature for second phase polls in Manipur is Wednesday (February 16).
Manipur with a 60-seat will vote on two phases on February 28 and March 5. The counting of votes and result will be declared on March 10.
