Imphal: A 58-year-old woman from Sirarakhong village in the Ukhrul district, Manipur succumbed to COVID-19 on Friday night. This is the first death due to the Coronavirus since the second wave hit the hill districts.
The woman had tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday and was admitted to the COVID-19 ICU at Shija Hospital in Imphal.
The victim has been identified as S Wordhar, wife of S Jeremiah.
As per the medical report issued by the hospital, the victim’s condition deteriorated on Friday evening, and CPR was initiated, according to the latest ACLS protocols. However, she suffered a cardiac arrest and was declared dead around 10:39 pm, it said.

As per reports, the victim’s husband is also battling for COVID-19 at the same hospital.
It may be noted that owing to the rapid rise of COVID-19 cases, Ukhrul is one of the two hill districts in the state to have announced a curfew till May 17.
At present, Ukhrul has recorded at least 81 persons as active cases.
