Ambassa: A 45-year-old man allegedly hacked his wife and mother-in-law to death and later attempted to die by suicide at his in-law’s house in Tripura’s Dhalai district, on Monday, police said.

The man was identified as Narayan Das, a resident of Happania in West Tripura district. He reached his in-law’s house on Monday and after an argument with his wife and mother-in-law, attacked both with a sharp weapon.

The locals listening to the screams of two sons from their house informed the Ambassa police station, following which police rushed to the spot. However, the locals angry over the double murder surrounded the house and wanted the accused to be handed over to them.

The police had to call reinforcement to bring the situation under control and arrest Narayan Das.

The police recovered two bodies and sent them to the hospital for autopsy, and the accused Narayan Das was admitted to Kulai district hospital for treatment.

According to the Ambasa Police, the incident occurred around 11 am on Monday.

“The accused Narayan Das attacked his wife Jaya Sahi (38) and mother-in-law Kajali Sahi (55) with a sharp weapon in Ambasa Colony area of ​​Ramkrishna Mission road. Upon receiving the news, we rushed to the spot with the police force and arrested the accused Narayan Das,” said an on-duty police official.

He also said that the accused had reached his in-law’s house by train on Monday morning.

“He stabbed his wife Jaya Sahi and mother-in-law, Kajali Shahi, to death. They have two sons. Some details of the murder have been found from them,” said an on-duty police official.

According to him, the cause of death is not yet known. However, the weapon used in the murder has been recovered.
