Amid the new COVID-19 strain detected in the United Kingdom, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday announced imposition of night curfew in the state starting Wednesday. The night curfew will remain in force until January 2, from 10 pm to 6 am.

The chief minister made the announcement following a meeting with Health Minister K Sudhakar, members of the state Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for COVID-19 and senior officials.

Senior health officials said the night curfew has been imposed to prevent the spread of the new strain of virus found in the United Kingdom. It will be applicable for the entire state and he requested the public to cooperate to prevent and contain the new COVID-19 strain.

Officials said between December 23 and January 2, no function or festive celebration is allowed to take place after 10 pm. It applies to every kind of function.

CM Yediyurappa stated those travelling to the state from foreign countries must have COVID-19 certificate and the test should be done only 72 hours before. He mentioned that all arrangements have been done at the airport to conduct tests and health staff have been deployed there and the authorities in-charge have seen that no one enters the city without getting tested.

He also said guideline will be issued soon in this regard.
