Guwahati: Assam reported 1,856 new COVID-19 infections on Friday out of 36,180 tests conducted, reaching a cumulative figure of 87,908 reported cases. Assam’s positivity rate now stands at 5.12%.
Of the new cases, 433 are from Kamrup (M), 150 from Dibrugarh, 143 from Cachar and 121 from Kamrup rural district.

The state also recorded six COVID related fatalities which bumped up the death toll to 227.
The deceased persons are Madhai Saha (53) of Dhubri; Kameswar Lahkar (55) of Barpeta; Kamal Krishan Mahanta (47) of Kamrup R; Haripad Deb Nath (55) of Hailakandi; Bidhu Bhushan Das (57) of Cachar and Sahida Khatun (43) of Dibrugarh.

Meanwhile, 2,476 people were cured and discharged, taking the total number of cured and discharged people to 65,596.
It is the third consecutive day when Assam discharged over 2,000 people. State health minister lauded the achievement and tweeted, “For the third consecutive day, we have more than 2K discharges. Absolutely brilliant job by medical team”
