Guwahati: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday changed the schedule for the counting of votes in the upcoming assembly elections for Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
Originally slated for June 4, the counting of votes will now take place on June 2. This change only affects the state assembly elections, with no alterations to the schedule for Parliamentary constituencies within these states.
In an official statement issued by the ECI, it was emphasised that the elections for the Legislative Assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim must be conducted before the expiration of their current terms, which is set for June 2.
Consequently, the commission decided to amend the schedule accordingly, specifically for the General Election to the State Legislative Assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.

The adjustment in the schedule comes promptly after the announcement of the dates for both Lok Sabha and assembly elections. The assembly elections for Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are slated for April 19.
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections, as announced on Saturday, will be conducted in seven phases spanning from April 19 to June 1.
