The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway continues its crackdown on the illegal transportation of contraband and smuggled goods, recovering items valued at more than ₹26.48 lakh between 1st and 15th September 2024. In this period, the RPF apprehended nine individuals in connection with the illicit transport of these goods.
In a significant incident on 2nd September 2024, the RPF, along with the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Lumding, conducted a joint search operation aboard the Agartala – Rani Kamalapati Express (Train No. 01666 Special) at Lumding railway station. Four individuals were apprehended during the operation, and authorities seized 19.7 grams of brown sugar valued at ₹3.94 lakh, along with 18.10 kilograms of ganja worth approximately ₹1.81 lakh. The suspects and seized items were handed over to the Officer-in-Charge of the GRP in Lumding for legal action.

From January to August 2024, the RPF of Northeast Frontier Railway has successfully recovered contraband and smuggled goods valued at over ₹23.50 crores. Additionally, 283 individuals involved in the illegal transportation of these items have been apprehended during this period.
