RESET Programme launched to empower retired athletes: Sports Minister

Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, has urged retired sportspersons across India to apply for the newly launched Retired Sportsperson Empowerment Training (RESET) Programme. The initiative, announced on National Sports Day, is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to support retired athletes and engage them in India’s sporting ecosystem.

In a statement, Dr Mandaviya emphasised the significance of the RESET Programme in recognising and empowering former athletes. “The RESET Programme is an important step towards acknowledging our retired athletes, who have brought glory to the nation with their achievements. We encourage all retired sportspersons to take full advantage of this initiative, to build new skills, stay involved in the sports community, and continue contributing to the nation’s sporting legacy,” he said.

The RESET Programme is designed to aid retired athletes in developing new career opportunities and fostering intergenerational knowledge transfer within the sports sector. Dr Mandaviya reiterated the government’s commitment to fully supporting retired athletes, and encouraged eligible individuals to apply through the dedicated portal.

The programme is open to retired athletes aged 20 to 50 years who have either won international medals, participated in international events, or achieved national or state-level recognition. The Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) will collaborate with the government to implement the RESET Programme. It includes self-paced online learning modules, practical on-ground training, internships, and placement assistance, alongside entrepreneurial guidance upon completion.

Applications for the RESET Programme can be submitted via the portal at LNIPE RESET Programme, and the course will commence following an evaluation process.

The initiative seeks to utilise the valuable experience of retired athletes, further nurturing India’s future champions while contributing to the country’s sporting infrastructure.
