Bharti Airtel, one of India’s leading telecommunications service providers, has announced the successful deployment of additional spectrum acquired in July 2024. This deployment, including an extra 5 MHz on the 1800 band in Assam and 5 MHz on the 2100 band across Assam and the Northeast, will significantly enhance Airtel’s 5G and 4G network capacities, resulting in improved data speeds and broader coverage in urban and rural areas.
The spectrum deployment, now fully completed, ensures that Airtel customers across Assam, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh will benefit from a higher quality of service in terms of both voice and data connectivity. The expansion also boosts coverage along major highways and rail routes, providing seamless connectivity across the region as the demand for mobile data continues to surge.
Rajnish Verma, CEO of Airtel Assam and Northeast, expressed his excitement about the latest deployment, stating, “Airtel’s commitment to superior network performance is unwavering. With the integration of this new spectrum, customers across the state can now enjoy enhanced call connectivity, faster data speeds, and an overall improved performance. In the recent spectrum auction, Airtel secured 97 MHz of spectrum, re-acquiring its expired holdings while also expanding its Sub-GHz spectrum. The company has efficiently consolidated its fragmented spectrum blocks into continuous bands, holding the largest pool of mid-band spectrum. With its diverse spectrum portfolio spanning the 900, 1800, 2100, and 2300 bands, Airtel is well-equipped to meet the growing demand for high-speed data services.
In addition to this deployment, Airtel has initiated the re-farming of mid-band spectrum for 5G services, a move designed to meet the increasing data requirements of its expanding user base.
