70th All India Inter Railway Table Tennis Championship concludes

The 70th All India Inter Railway Table Tennis Championship 2024-25 (Men & Women), hosted by the Northeast Frontier Railway Sports Association (NFRSA), successfully wrapped up on 16th August 2024. The closing ceremony saw the General Manager of N.F. Railway, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, alongside the President of NFRSA and other senior officials, felicitating the winners and distributing trophies and prizes.

The championship, which began on 12th August, drew participation from 13 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams, totalling 180 players, referees, and coaches from various Indian Railways zones across the country.

Competitions were held in several categories, including Men’s and Women’s Team Championships, as well as Men’s and Women’s Singles Championships. South Eastern Railway emerged victorious in both the Men’s and Women’s Team Championships. In the Women’s Singles category, Anusha Kutumbale of Western Railway claimed the championship title by defeating Takeme Sarkar of Northeast Frontier Railway. In the Men’s Singles category, Ronit Bhanja of Eastern Railway secured victory over Jeet Chandra of South Eastern Railway to become the champion.

The tournament also featured many prominent players, including Sutirtha Mukherjee of South Eastern Railway, who represented India in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and has previously won the World Table Tennis Women’s Doubles. Other notable international players who participated included Ronit Bhanja (Eastern Railway), Anirban Ghosh (South Eastern Railway), Poymantee Baisya (Metro Railway), and Anusha Kutumbale (Western Railway), all of whom made a significant impact in the tournament.
