Northeast Frontier Railway announces key train route extensions

In a move to meet the long-standing demands of residents in South Tripura and Assam’s Jorhat district, the Northeast Frontier Railway has announced the extension of two key train services. Effective from 16th June 2024, Train No. 13173/13174 (Sealdah–Agartala–Sealdah) Kanchanjungha Express will now run from Agartala to Sabroom, and Train No. 15769/15770 (Alipurduar Jn.–Lumding–Alipurduar Jn.) Intercity Express will be extended from Lumding to Mariani.

Starting 16th June 2024, Train No. 13173 (Sealdah–Sabroom) Kanchanjungha Express will depart from Sealdah at 06:50 hours every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, arriving in Sabroom at 20:00 hours the following day. Conversely, Train No. 13174 (Sabroom–Sealdah) Kanchanjungha Express will leave Sabroom at 06:20 hours every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, reaching Sealdah at 19:20 hours the next day. This extension provides the southernmost areas of Tripura with direct connectivity to Kolkata, offering significant benefits to traders, students, and patients.

From 16th June 2024, Train No. 15769 (Alipurduar Jn.–Mariani) Intercity Express will depart Alipurduar Jn. at 03:45 hours daily, arriving in Mariani at 20:00 hours the same day. Similarly, Train No. 15770 (Mariani–Alipurduar Jn.) Intercity Express will leave Mariani at 09:15 hours daily, reaching Alipurduar Jn. at 00:50 hours the next day. This extension aims to enhance the existing rail connectivity between Upper Assam and North Bengal, thereby promoting economic activities in the region.
