During her recent visit to Darjeeling Himalayan Railways (DHR), the Chairperson of the Railway Board and Chief Executive Officer of N. F. Railway, Jaya Varma Sinha, emphasized the importance of preserving the Tindharia Workshop.
The 109-year-old Tindharia Workshop is located in Darjeeling and serves as a unique heritage site of the Northeast Frontier Railway. It is the only workshop in Indian Railways where the steam engine and wooden body coaches of narrow gauge are maintained. During her visit, she also inspected the 100-year-old steam engine loco 802-B, which is still in operation.
The Railway Board and Chief Executive Officer also inspected various Z reverses and loops on her way to Darjeeling. She then visited Elysia Place, the present headquarters of DHR, and the then headquarters of the ‘Assam Rail Link Project’. She also visited the mini museum and DHR office there. Later, she had discussions with officials of DHR and reviewed their performance across various aspects of working.
