A total of 33 criminals, including five who were carrying illegal weapons, were arrested by Delhi police on Thursday night at a banquet hall in the Wazir Pur Industrial Area of Ashok Vihar.
According to police, 28 criminals were apprehended under preventive sections of CrPC, and 70 other people were detained at the venue under the provisions of the Delhi Police Act.
One Sunny Rakesh, 38, of Gulab Bagh Uttam Nagar, Delhi, was also arrested on suspicion of organising his birthday party at the banquet hall, which several active criminals attended, police said.
Sunny was released from judicial custody on March 5 on the grounds of treatment of his father for 15 days; the Delhi Police Act says that he has previous involvement in 50 cases of heinous crimes including murder, attempt to murder, robbery, and dacoity. An application for cancellation of interim bail is being filed in a concerned court, police added.

The search of the venue also revealed that illegal liquor was being served to the guests by the management staff of the banquet hall, who failed to submit any valid licence issued by the Excise Department of Delhi.
