Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), a public sector initiative, and Prasar Bharati (under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide affordable and accessible digital services in rural India.
As per the new agreement, Prasar Bharati will launch its OTT service along with a broadband package under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF). The service will be powered by Prasar Bharati’s OTT platform and include linear channels, live TV and on-demand content.
The USOF aims to provide high-speed broadband and mobile connections across remote and rural areas.
The agreement aims to leverage the digital content and reach of Prasar Bharati and ONDC’s technical expertise to enable digital commerce in rural areas. The initiative is expected to provide affordable and accessible digital services to the people of rural India.
The USOF has been instrumental in enabling high-speed broadband and mobile connections across Gram Panchayats (GPs) and villages in the country. The new initiative will enable the people of rural and remote areas to participate in the digital economy.
