Kohima: Nagaland Lok Sabha Member of Parliament S. Supongmeren Jamir on Tuesday urged the Centre to strengthen infrastructure and academic facilities at the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry in Jalukie, Peren district, a constituent college of the Central Agricultural University.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour in Parliament, Jamir appealed to the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying to sanction key developmental projects for the institution.
The proposals include the construction of a Veterinary Clinical Complex, upgradation of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnostic (VLD) facilities for accurate and efficient animal disease diagnosis, and the introduction of veterinary telemedicine and mobile animal health initiatives to improve outreach and service delivery.
Jamir said the proposed interventions would significantly enhance the quality of veterinary education, strengthen animal healthcare services, and build capacity in the livestock sector in line with national development priorities.
He noted that the college attracts students from across the country and said the proposed infrastructure upgrades would benefit both students and faculty while helping the institution emerge as one of India’s leading veterinary colleges.
The MP also urged the ministry to accord priority to the proposals, stating that investment in veterinary education is crucial for improving livestock productivity, ensuring food security, and generating employment opportunities in the rural economy.
