Nagaland Guv interacts with ST scholarship beneficiaries

Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav interacted with beneficiaries of the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students during a special session organised under the “Janjatiya Garima Utsav” celebration at Dr Imkongliba Hall, Lok Bhavan, Kohima, on Monday.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor expressed happiness at meeting students benefiting from the scholarship scheme and highlighted the significance of commemorating tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda, who symbolised courage, dignity and justice for tribal communities.

Describing education as the key to empowerment and progress, the Governor said the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme was an important initiative that supports deserving students in pursuing higher education and achieving their aspirations. He expressed satisfaction that many students from Nagaland were benefiting from the scheme.

Encouraging the students, Yadav urged them to work hard, remain disciplined and make full use of available opportunities while staying connected to the rich values and traditions of their tribal heritage.

He further stated that achieving the vision of a developed India would require excellence and dedication from every citizen, including youth, doctors, engineers, technocrats, students and professionals from all walks of life.

Expressing confidence in the youth of Nagaland, the Governor said they would continue to excel and contribute positively towards building a developed India, or “Viksit Bharat”, by 2047.

During the interactive session, he encouraged students to pursue academic excellence with discipline, character and social responsibility. He also highlighted honesty, humility, compassion and dedication to public welfare as essential values for success in life.

Stressing the importance of youth empowerment, the Governor underscored the need to promote skill development, entrepreneurship, vocational training, tourism and agriculture-based industries to tackle unemployment in the state.

He also highlighted the importance of quality education, infrastructure development, unity and lasting peace for the overall progress of Nagaland.

The programme was chaired by Sarita Yadav, IAS, Secretary of Higher and Technical Education. The keynote address was delivered by V Lovitoly Sema, NCS, Additional Secretary, Higher and Technical Education and Ex-Officio Director of the Department of Higher Education.

The vote of thanks was delivered by I Sino Phom, Director of the Department of Tribal Affairs. Officials from the Higher and Technical Education Department, the Tribal Affairs Department, and students from various colleges attended the programme.
