Kohima: The Kohima Police has initiated legal action following the seizure of a large quantity of suspected counterfeit cosmetic products from multiple shops in Kohima.
According to police, the operation was carried out based on credible inputs regarding the sale of suspected fake cosmetic and beauty products within its jurisdiction. During checks conducted at five shops in the Razhü Point and Y-Junction areas, officials seized a substantial quantity of products allegedly being sold under reputed brand names, including Lakmé.
A case has been registered at North Police Station under North PS Case No. 0011/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, read with Section 63 of the Copyright Act, 1957.
In connection with the case, five accused persons have been arrested and are currently in judicial custody. Investigation into the matter is underway.
Police stated that such activities not only violate the rights of companies but also pose potential health risks to consumers.

Kohima Police has advised citizens to purchase cosmetic products only from authorised sellers and verify product authenticity before use. Members of the public have also been urged to report any suspicious products to the nearest police station.
PRO Kohima Police reiterated that the police remain committed to ensuring public safety and taking strict action against illegal activities.
