Nagaland bypoll: 82.21% voter turnout recorded in 28 Koridang Assembly constituency

Kohima: Polling for the bye-election to the 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency in Nagaland was conducted successfully on Thursday, recording an approximate voter turnout of 82.21% across all 30 polling stations, according to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Nagaland.

In a press statement issued by Chief Electoral Officer Bhagyashree Banayat, IAS, it was informed that following the completion of polling, all polled Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines were securely deposited in designated strong rooms in accordance with Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines.

The storage process was carried out in the presence of contesting candidates and their representatives, as well as Central Observers appointed by the ECI, under full videography and strict security protocols. The strong rooms are guarded under a two-tier armed security arrangement, with at least one platoon of armed security personnel deployed, along with 24×7 CCTV surveillance.

Reserve EVMs and VVPAT machines have also been secured separately in a reserve strong room as per the Commission’s prescribed procedures.

All contesting candidates have been formally informed and permitted to depute representatives to observe the security arrangements. Their representatives are allowed to remain outside the inner security perimeter to monitor the safeguards, while live CCTV footage of the strong rooms has been made available for viewing.

The strong rooms will be opened on the day of counting in the presence of the contesting candidates or their representatives and the Central Observers, with the entire process conducted under videography as per ECI protocols.

The date of counting is scheduled for May 4, 2026.
