Kohima: The Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima, Polan John, has informed that April 9, 2026, the polling day for the General Election to the Assam Legislative Assembly, will be observed as a paid holiday to enable eligible voters to cast their votes.
The order has been issued in accordance with Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, to facilitate registered voters to exercise their franchise.
The paid holiday will apply to all persons who are registered voters in Assembly Constituencies of Assam and are employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking, shops, or other establishments within Nagaland, including those engaged in shift-based duties, daily wage employment, or casual work.

However, the notification clarified that the provision will not apply to electors whose absence from duty may cause danger or substantial loss in respect of the employment in which they are engaged.
All employers have been directed to ensure compliance with the order so that eligible voters can participate in the democratic process.
