Kohima: In an anticipated political development, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), following its general convention on Saturday, has formally resolved to merge with the Naga People’s Front (NPF).
The decision was taken during the 6th General Convention of the NDPP held on Saturday at the Capital Cultural Hall in Kohima. The event was attended by party members and representatives from across the state.
According to a resolution adopted, the NDPP welcomed and accepted the NPF’s offer to amalgamate and function as one regional political party under the NPF banner. The party described the NPF’s unconditional offer as a “mature and well-calibrated move” towards consolidating regional unity in the state.
“That the NDPP being made up of regional minded people is confident that the merger with the NPF will further strengthen and carry forward the ideals of a regional political party in working towards resolving the age-old Indo-Naga political issue and at the same time continue to be the voice of the Naga people,” the party said.
The NDPP said that merging of the two regional political parties in the State will only help in further cementing their dreams and aspirations of a vibrant and developed people.
Emphasizing the need for unity, the NDPP reiterated its commitment to work for the aspirations of the Naga people and its vision of moving “Towards a State of Excellence.”
The party said the merger would help bring “intensive attention in taking the Naga people forward” through a unified regional force.
The resolution also lauded the leadership of NDPP President Chingwang Konyak and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, crediting their “sheer dynamism and political presence” for guiding the party thus far. The party expressed “unwavering support” to the leadership and endorsed them to ensure a smooth transition of the merger with the NPF.
The resolution was adopted and passed unanimously by the Convention on October 18, 2025.
