Imphal: Ariha Pangambam from Manipur has etched history by becoming the first-ever Indian to win an individual Gold medal at the 2026 Senior Women’s Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Tagaytay City, Philippines.
The 22-year-old Indian gymnast delivered a brilliant performance, scoring 19.10 points to clinch the historic title. Her landmark achievement adds another milestone to Manipur’s sporting success and highlights the country’s growing presence in international gymnastics.
After narrowly missing the podium by securing 4th place, Ariha’s big victory marks her comeback in the international gymnastics event.
In 2025, Ariha also won gold in individual aerobic at the 38th National Games held in Uttarakhand.
Following her victory, congratulations poured in from across the country, including the Chief Minister and Governor of Manipur.
Congratulating Ariha on scripting history, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said, “Your remarkable achievement is a moment of immense pride for Manipur and the entire nation. May you continue to inspire generations and bring many more laurels to India,” he added.
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla called Ariha’s victory a historic milestone for Indian gymnastics. “Scoring an outstanding 19.100 in the final with exceptional artistry, execution and difficulty, she scripted history by securing India’s maiden gold in the individual event, said the Governor.
Governor Bhalla also congratulated her coach, whose guidance and dedication played a vital role in this remarkable achievement. A proud moment for Manipur and the nation. Wishing her continued success in the years ahead, he added.
Former CM N Biren Singh also extended his heartiest congratulations to gymnast Ariha, saying her win is indeed a proud moment for Indian gymnastics and for Manipur.
“Your grit, perseverance and excellence have inspired millions. Wishing you many more successes ahead as you carry forward the proud sporting legacy of our state,” he said.
