Dimapur: The Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) has submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, urging immediate deportation measures against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants (IBIs) and stricter enforcement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in and around the district.
In the representation, ASUD expressed deep concern over the unchecked presence of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the region, warning that such demographic shifts could have long-term socio-economic and cultural consequences for the indigenous communities of Nagaland.
ASUD commended the existing efforts by the administration to regulate the entry of outsiders but emphasised the urgent need for stricter enforcement mechanisms.
The Union called for the creation or upgradation of a centralised ILP registration and monitoring system, which would include thorough verification of guarantors and applicants.
The memorandum also proposed deportation of individuals identified as illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, ILP defaulters, and those in possession of forged documents. ASUD demanded strict action against both violators and individuals or property owners found harboring such persons.
To ensure more effective implementation, the Union recommended coordinated efforts among local administration, concerned departments, civil society groups, student bodies, and youth organisations.
It also underscored the need for public awareness campaigns to educate residents on the ILP system and its implications.
“We believe that strict implementation of ILP will help maintain the demographic balance, protect local interests, and promote sustainable development in the region,” it stated.
