Kohima: The Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ), the apex youth organisation of the Rengma community, has submitted an urgent representation to the Chief Medical Officer of Kohima, calling for immediate intervention to strengthen the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Tseminyu.

In a formal letter submitted on Wednesday, the RSZ expressed deep concern over what it described as “severe constraints” under which the CHC continues to operate, despite serving as the sole health facility catering to the entire Tseminyu district.

The organisation, which officially adopted the CHC in 2024 as part of its public health initiative, said it has repeatedly extended cooperation and submitted appeals to the Department of Health & Family Welfare seeking better staffing and infrastructure. However, it said that no concrete steps have yet been taken to address the situation.

According to the RSZ, the CHC currently has only one Senior Medical Officer (SMO), a contractual MBBS doctor, a dentist, an AYUSH doctor, and six nurses. The group warned that with the arrival of the monsoon season, patient inflow—particularly from remote rural areas, has begun to increase significantly, placing additional strain on the already under-resourced facility.

The youth body observed that the current strength of medical personnel is grossly inadequate to meet the health demands of the district.

The letter further warned that failure to address the issue may compel the organisation to launch democratic forms of protest.
