Kohima: The Departmen of Art & Culture is gearing up for the highly anticipated 25th edition of the Hornbill Festival 2024, set to take place from December 1 to 10.
With its “Cultural Connect,” the department has lined up an array of activities to celebrate Nagaland’s vibrant heritage and traditions.
The main arena will host daily cultural performances featuring 18 cultural troupes from across Nagaland. These troupes will showcase lively folk dances, songs, indigenous games, rituals, and folk dramas, all performed in colorful traditional attire.
The Artists’ Corner, located at the World War-II Museum premises in Kisama, promises a dynamic blend of creativity and interaction. Highlights include:
- Art shows and demonstrations
- Artist talks and presentations
- Art pavilion exhibitions and installations
- Interactive workshops
- Art battles and a cultural art show
Artisans will also have booths displaying and selling their creations.
In collaboration with the National Archives of India, the Archives Branch will present a joint exhibition titled “Naga-Land & People in Archival Mirror.” Visitors can explore publications on Naga history, monographs, dictionaries, customary practices, and archaeological documentation.
The World War-II Museum in Kisama, a must-visit destination during the festival, will display relics and artifacts from the war daily from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The State Museum in Kohima will also be open on all working days, from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM, providing insights into the rich cultural history of Nagaland.
An Artisans’ Corner at the World War-II Museum Complex will allow all 18 tribes of Nagaland to showcase and demonstrate their indigenous art and craft-making skills, providing visitors with an immersive cultural experience.
