Kohima: The two-day celebration of the Chaga Gadi cum Mini Hornbill Festival, themed “Celebrating our Roots,” was held in Nzau village, under Tening subdivision in Peren district.
Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang and Minister for Tourism and Higher Education Temjen Imna Along attended as special guests, highlighted the importance of cultural preservation and unity within the Zeliang community.
In his address, Minister Along praised the state government, led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, along with Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang and Y. Patton, for the Tourism Department’s active role in supporting the Chaga Gadi celebration—one of the Zeliang community’s largest festivals. He encouraged attendees to foster happiness and mutual appreciation through shared culture, traditions, religion, and lifestyle, calling for preservation of their rich cultural heritage and a spirit of unity within the community.
Deputy Chief Minister Zeliang highlighted the significance of the term “Zeliangrong” in the songs and dances performed during the festival, advocating for unity and collaboration to overcome divisions. He emphasized the need for healing and for creating a shared platform where cultural expressions, particularly through song and dance, can be preserved as vital elements of the community’s heritage.
The festival’s concluding events included introductions and presentations, vibrant cultural dances, choreography, folk song performances, and indigenous games, showcasing the community’s deep-rooted traditions.
Adithbo Chewang and Silubui Namdau served as emcees, while Secretary Thulengsipi delivered the vote of thanks, and Convenor Ramzankam Nbung gave the welcome address on behalf of the organizing committee.
