Kohima: The Nagaland government is facing a financial shortfall of Rs 379 crore to complete the construction of the new High Court complex at Meriema under Kohima district.
Out of the total projected cost of Rs 541.80 crore, the state has so far allocated Rs 162.78 crore, leaving a significant balance required for the project’s completion and commissioning.
This data was shared during the Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal’s visit to the ongoing HC complex, on Wednesday.
Addressing the media after the inspection, Meghwal informed that a positive meeting was held with Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio prior to the inspection. He revealed that the meeting with the Chief Minister focused on the pending creation of a separate High Court for Nagaland, the inauguration of the new High Court building, and securing financial assistance for its completion.
The union minister assured that during the winter session, a meeting will be convened with the Secretary of Justice and the Secretary of Expenditure from the Finance Department to resolve these issues.
He also assured that the necessary funds would be provided to complete the construction of the High Court building, including clearing the pending bills owed to the contractor.
In addition to the High Court matters, Meghwal highlighted his visit to Tseminyu on Tuesday. Tseminyu, a newly created district, stands to benefit from various development projects under NABARD, with the possibility of new road projects and the establishment of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs).
He highlighted the need for more banks in the district, urging citizens to open bank accounts for easy access to centrally sponsored schemes.
Meghwal also agreed to support the construction of a district court in Tseminyu and sanctioned funds for the construction of a district hospital and roads in Tseminyu town. He encouraged local representatives to submit a proposal for the development of a cultural complex in the area.
He also addressed housing concerns under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme, promising an increase in housing allocation to ensure that those without pucca houses in Tseminyu receive the necessary benefits.
