Guwahati: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has sharply rebutted allegations made by BJP MLA and Advisor Imkong L Imchen regarding the party’s stance on the proposed cow slaughter ban promotion rally scheduled for September 28, 2024, in Kohima.
In a statement released on Sunday, the NPCC expressed shock over what it called “baseless allegations” by Imchen, who had accused the Congress of failing to condemn the rally, titled “Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra.”
The NPCC clarified that it had already condemned the proposed rally in a press release dated September 10, 2024. “We had strongly and unequivocally denounced the proposed ‘Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra,'” the NPCC stated. The party criticized Imchen for not verifying their stance, adding that their position had been “clearly spelled out in the public domain.”
The NPCC expressed reluctance to address what it described as Imchen’s “unsubstantiated” allegations. “We are sorry to state that we don’t see any shred of merit in responding to the rest of his unsubstantiated tirade of allegations against us,” the party said.
Reiterating their condemnation of the proposed rally, the NPCC described the event as an attack on the secular and diverse spirit of the Constitution. “We once again vehemently condemn the proposed ‘Gau Dhwaj’ and consider it an assault on the diverse and secular spirit enshrined in our Constitution,” the statement concluded.
The NPCC reaffirmed its commitment to opposing what it called “divisive agendas” and expressed a willingness to engage in any discourse grounded in “evidence and facts.”
