Dimapur: In a significant crackdown on the narcotics trade, Nagaland Police seized drugs and psychotropic substances valued at Rs 30,05,21,600 crore between July and September 2024.
The operations, led by the Narcotic Police Station (PHQ) in collaboration with various district police units, resulted in multiple arrests and the registration of NDPS cases across the state.
According to a police statement, four cases were registered at the Narcotic Police Station, leading to the seizure of 2.993 kg of heroin worth ₹20.95 crore. Additionally, three cases were filed at Khuzama Police Station, where 17,179 Yaba tablets valued at ₹68.71 lakh were confiscated. Medziphema Police Station also registered a case involving the seizure of 1.202 kg of heroin, valued at ₹8.41 crore.
In total, 23 individuals—17 males and six females—were arrested in these operations. Cases have been filed at the Narcotic Police Station, Khuzama, and Medziphema.
Nagaland Police also played a key role in aiding interstate efforts. Critical intelligence shared with Karnataka Police led to the interception of drug consignments trafficked by air from Manipur to Karnataka. One such module was dismantled, resulting in the arrest of drug smugglers.
In another development, Nagaland Police apprehended a notorious drug trafficker at the request of West Bengal Police. The individual was reportedly involved in several cases of trafficking Yaba and “World is Yours” tablets from Nagaland to West Bengal.
Police credited public cooperation for the success of these operations and highlighted future efforts targeting the properties and assets of drug traffickers.
Authorities have appealed to the public, urging citizens and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to report any narcotics-related activities to their nearest police station or through the ‘MADEIN’ mobile app. The police assured that informants’ identities would remain confidential.
