Kohima: Amid fears surrounding the influx of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, the Nagaland government has announced the enforcement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Chumoukedima, Niuland, and Dimapur districts.
This decision follows a cabinet meeting where various administrative matters were discussed, as revealed by Minister Temjen Imna Along on Wednesday during a press conference.
Along outlined the ILP regulations for Dimapur district, specifying three categories of residents. Individuals in Categories I and II will not require an ILP:
Category I includes those who settled in Dimapur before December 1, 1963. The Department will work towards issuing a Smart Card to these residents, along with options for Permanent Residence Certificates and Domicile Certificates.
Category II pertains to those who settled in Dimapur between December 1, 1963, and November 21, 1979. These residents will be eligible for Permanent Residence Certificates and have the option to obtain Domicile Certificates.
Category III involves individuals who settled in Dimapur on or after November 22, 1979, who will be required to obtain an ILP.
The Minister also emphasised the need to enhance the digital system for ILP issuance. For specific categories, such as students, teachers, technical personnel, and business investors, the ILP will be issued for extended durations of up to 2-5 years.
