Kohima: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has opposed the State Government’s decision to revisit the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989.
According to the Congress, the recent Assembly discussion has sparked a significant debate across the state, dividing Naga society on the issue.
The Congress said that the NLTP Act enforced in 1990 by the then Congress government, reflected the strong and unanimous public sentiment of the time. The NPCC said that it has remained steadfast in its support of the Act, emphasising that it was a decision made in accordance with the will of the people.

The NPCC urged the current government to reconsider its intention to review the Act. The Congress party called for extensive consultations and consensus-building exercises with all stakeholders before making any final decisions.
“We also appeal to the People of Nagaland to consider contemporary realities and approach the issue with an objective and conciliatory spirit,” the party said.
