Kohima: Capital Shuttlers, a badminton club based in Nagaland’s capital city, is set to organise a month-long coaching camp titled “Nurture Them Young,” an all-Nagaland summer badminton camp.
The event will take place from June 20 to July 20, at the Indoor Badminton Stadium in Kohima.
The camp, conducted under the aegis of the Nagaland Badminton Association (NBA) and the Kohima District Badminton Association (KDBA), aims to provide top-notch coaching to budding badminton players across the state.
The camp will be coached by Joseph Sumi, Assistant Commandant, Nagaland Police, a distinguished coach with an impressive record: 15-time Men’s State Singles Champion, 12-time Men’s North East Singles Champion, 20-time State Doubles Champion, and a Badminton World Federation (BWF) Level-1 certified coach.
During a press conference, Capital Shuttlers President Medokerhe Noho emphasised the importance of nurturing young talent, noting that Nagaland lags behind other states in sports development.
General Secretary Joseph Sumi highlighted the lack of platforms for young athletes and expressed hope that the summer camp would attract both children and veterans without clashing with school schedules.
Executive member Metekhrielie Mejura encouraged young sportspersons to seize this opportunity, emphasising that the camp is not just a summer event but a master training camp aimed at fostering teamwork and skill development in badminton.
The last date for form submission is June 12. Registration fees are set at Rs 1500 per player, with a discounted rate of Rs 1000 each for siblings.
The categories include Under 10, Under 15, Under 19, senior and veterans, inclusive of both male and female participants.
All Nagaland Badminton Doubles League
Capital Shuttlers will also host the All Nagaland Badminton Doubles League, featuring categories for Men, Women, Mixed Doubles, Junior Boys/Girls, and Veterans (75+ and 95+). The league will run on Fridays and Saturdays, aiming to keep participants active and well-prepared for the upcoming inter-district tournament, tentatively scheduled for the first week of August.
The last date for form submission is June 10 with a registration fee of Rs 5000.
