Wokha: A flying squad from the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), led by the Officer-in-Charge (O/C) of Wokha Police Station in Nagaland, conducted a successful enforcement drive against the sale of tobacco products near educational institutions on Monday.
The operation, carried out in collaboration with the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), District Administration representatives, the Lotha Student’s Union, and Women Police personnel from Wokha, resulted in significant penalties and seizures.
During the raid, 13 shopkeepers were penalised for violating COTPA Sections 6A and 6B. Each violator was fined Rs. 200. The team confiscated all tobacco products found within the restricted areas, reinforcing the message that such sales will not be tolerated.

“The team will continue to conduct similar raids in the coming days,” stated a spokesperson for the flying squad. “Shopkeepers are being warned to comply with the COTPA Act, and any further violations will result in legal action.”
The confiscated tobacco products were destroyed at the Wokha Police Station premises in the presence of all squad members, ensuring that the prohibited items are completely removed from circulation.
