Naga peace talk: Top NNPG leader impeached from parent NSCN group

Kohima: In a significant development, convenor of the Working Committee (WC) of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs), N Kitovi Zhimomi, was impeached from his position as the general secretary of the NSCN-Unification group.

The WC NNPGs, comprising of at least seven Naga political groups, including the NSCN-U, has been in talks with the Centre on the long Naga political issue and an ‘agreed position’ was signed on November 17, 2017.

The decision to impeach the top leader on Sunday, as per the group, were rooted in allegations of authoritarianism, financial mismanagement, incompetence, and ‘dictatorial’.

The group’s decision was reached during an emergency meeting held at its designated camp headquarters at National Tatar Hoho Hall, Khehoi.

As per sources, it was during the meeting that top leaders of the group decided to impeach their Ato Kilonser Zhimomi, who had been a leader of the Naga political cause for 17 years.

Following the impeachment, the house unanimously elected Alezo Venuh, special envoy to collective leadership and coordinator of WC NNPGs, to take charge of the vacant seat.
