Kohima: As the campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Nagaland came to a close, political parties appealed for peaceful and fair polls in the state, urging all eligible voters to exercise their democratic franchise.
Through a communique, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) expressed gratitude to the people of Nagaland for their support during the poll process.
They emphasised the importance of citizen participation in upholding the Constitution and urge all electorates to exercise their right to vote.
“Even as large parts of Nagaland have contributed towards a vibrant democracy,
there are sections in the eastern part of the State that have called upon the people to
abstain from voting. While the NDPP respects the freedom to choose, we reiterate our
appeal to all the electorates of Nagaland to participate in the exercise of the Universal
Adult Franchise, which is one of the most sacred aspects of the Constitution of India,” the NDPP party said.
The NDPP called for peace and tranquility to ensure safe and smooth voting across all polling stations in the state. The party directed all its members not to resort to any means of force, violence, coercion or confront any section of society.
“If citizens are unwilling to vote it is their choice and actions to forcefully make them vote should not be undertaken in any manner. It is once again highlighted that voter impersonation is unlawful and no member of the Party should embark on such activities under any given circumstances. The aspirations of the citizens must always be respected,” the party said.
The party appealed for a peaceful and smooth voting in every polling station across the State.

On the other hand, the Congress Party appealed to village councils, Gaon Buras (GBs), and all poll-related officials to ensure free and fair elections for the Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency on April 19.
The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) reiterated and appealed to every eligible voter in the State to exercise their Constitutional right on the day of the poll and make a difference by voting for a leader of their choice for a better future.
