Kohima: During a campaign rally for the consensus candidate of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) in Chümoukedima, BJP national President JP Nadda took a swipe at the Congress party, highlighting their lack of representation in Nagaland on Saturday.
Nadda remarked that while the Congress is contesting a Lok Sabha seat, they do not hold any seats in the state legislative Assembly.
“Congress is fighting for the Lok Sabha seat. They are fighting for Delhi, but they do not have any seat in Kohima in the Vidhan Sabha,” Nadda took a dig at the Congress party.
The BJP leader said that under the Congress regime, the grand old party did not respect the time and opportunity that was given to them. The Congress’ negligence of the time during the long years of rule, he said, has hindered progress and prosperity.
According to Nadda, the Congress had a policy of “vote power and forget”. He believed that the Congress party’s failure to seize opportunities to serve the people has led them to their current position with no representation in the state Assembly.
Nadda made the comments while addressing a rally for the PDA candidate Dr Chumben Murry of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) at the Agri Expo Site.
He praised the transformative changes taking place in Nagaland under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy CMs Y Patton and TR Zeliang, and their government.
Expressing his admiration for Nagaland, Nadda lauded its rich cultural heritage, traditions, and festivals, noting its respect for humanity.
He outlined Prime Minister Modi’s vision for the Northeast, aiming to position the region as a gateway to South Asia and East Asia. Nadda emphasised the government’s focus on trade and tourism engagements, highlighting the significant investments made in the region.
Nadda contrasted the approach of the current administration with that of the Congress, describing it as a “DIVINE government model” focused on development. He cited the Prime Minister- Development Intiatives of North East (PM-DIVINE) initiative for the Northeast and the allocation of Rs 6,600 crores for the region as evidence of the government’s commitment to its growth.
Nadda highlighted the improvements in infrastructure and connectivity in Nagaland under the Modi government, including advancements in air and rail connectivity and the initiation of semi-high-speed rail projects.
He highlighted the shift from a policy of isolation by the Congress to one of decisiveness and doorstep delivery under the current administration.

Speaking on security matters, Nadda praised the BJP government’s efforts in addressing insurgency, mentioning the signing of eleven peace accords and the surrender of 9,500 insurgents. He also noted a significant reduction in insurgency-related incidents.
Looking ahead, Nadda assured continued efforts towards peace and development in Nagaland, with a focus on infrastructure development, internet connectivity, and improved transportation links through the Highways, Internet, Railway, Airways (HIRA) initiative.
