Kohima: Following a joint meeting convened at Dimapur on Tuesday, the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) have announced a state of public emergency across the region with immediate effect. This declaration comes in response to the prolonged delay by the Government of India in settling the offer for the creation of Frontier Nagaland Territory through the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The decision, influenced by the dissatisfaction over the government’s inaction, is further reinforced by the strict enforcement of the Chenmoho resolution passed on February 23, 2024.
According to the resolution, the populace of Eastern Nagaland has resolved not to participate in any central and state elections until a resolution is reached regarding the creation of the Frontier Nagaland Territory.
The tribal bodies and frontal organisations in Eastern Nagaland have expressed their refusal to accept any assurances made by the Ministry of Home Affairs post the upcoming parliamentary election process.
As a part of the escalating protest, Eastern Nagaland will witness a dawn-to-dusk ban on March 8, followed by intensified demonstrations.

Furthermore, amidst the declared state of public emergency, any form of election campaign by political parties within Eastern Nagaland is strictly prohibited. Individuals or groups found in violation of this declaration will do so at their own risk, the ENPO warned.
