Assam Rifles intercepts NSCN (K-Rebel) cadres in Mon, one killed

Kohima: In a significant operation, the Assam Rifles intercepted a group of NSCN (K-Rebel) cadres who were allegedly planning to carry out abduction and extortion in the Sangsa village of Mon district, Nagaland. The incident took place on the intervening night of March 3 and 4.

As the troops approached the village, they were met with heavy fire from the insurgents. The Assam Rifles troops retaliated, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire. In the end, one insurgent was killed, while another was apprehended.

The successful operation led to the recovery of one automatic rifle, one automatic pistol, grenades, ammunition, and other war-like stores. Intelligence inputs suggest that the insurgents belonged to the NSCN (K-Rebel) faction.

The Assam Rifles’ swift response and effective execution of the operation have been commended by the Ministry of Defence.
