Two US-based doctors have donated 3,875 cancer screening kits free of cost to the Mizoram State Cancer Institute (MSCI) in Zemabawk, Aizawl, to support early detection and screening in the state.
The kits were donated by Dr Dahiya and Dr Chauhan and comprise 975 Alpha-Fetoprotein (AFP), 950 Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA), 975 Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) and 975 Fecal Occult Blood (FOB) test kits.
The donation was facilitated through the office of Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), who is acquainted with the two doctors.
The kits are expected to strengthen MSCI’s screening capacity and improve access to early cancer detection for patients across Mizoram.
Singh stressed the importance of early diagnosis and timely treatment, particularly in view of Mizoram’s high cancer incidence and mortality. He expressed hope that the donated kits would be effectively utilised for the benefit of patients in the state.
