Health authorities in Mizoram have urged the public to remain vigilant following the detection of new COVID-19 cases after a period with no reported infections.

Officials cautioned that COVID-19 has not disappeared and can resurface at any time, emphasising the need for continued precautions. The disease spreads easily through close human contact, respiratory droplets from coughing or sneezing, and contact with contaminated surfaces.

Authorities identified vulnerable groups as infants, the elderly, individuals with underlying health conditions, and those undergoing long-term medical treatment, urging extra care for these categories.

The public has been advised to avoid crowded places, refrain from touching the face, and limit physical contact such as handshakes. Self-medication without proper medical advice has also been discouraged.

As of April 28, 2026, Mizoram has eight active COVID-19 cases. Since the first detection of the virus, a total of 19,98,442 tests have been conducted, with 2,39,710 positive cases recorded. The state has reported 734 deaths, while 2,38,968 individuals have recovered.

Officials reiterated that sustained public cooperation remains essential to prevent any further spread of the virus.
