Aizawl: The 12th North East Zone Shooting Championship 2025 concluded with Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma urging Mizo youth to set their sights on the 2036 Olympics.

Speaking at the closing function, Lalduhoma said shooting is a sport requiring sharp physical and mental discipline and one where Mizoram’s youth can excel on the global stage. He highlighted that Mizoram is aligning its Vision 2036 with India’s Olympic roadmap, already announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and expressed hope that many Mizo athletes will represent the country in the Games.

To achieve this, the state government is rolling out the Empowering Mizoram Sports (EMS) programme, aimed at scouting and training talented children in Olympic disciplines, including shooting. “The Government is committed to creating opportunities for our youth so they can compete at the highest levels,” the CM said.

The championship, hosted in Mizoram for the first time, was organised by the Mizoram Rifles Association. A total of 257 shooters from six Northeastern states and Services teams participated, with Assam fielding the largest contingent.

In the final medal tally, Mizoram emerged overall team champion with 25 gold medals, while Meghalaya came second with 24.

The closing event was also attended by Lalthansanga, Organising Chairman and Minister for EF&CC, who thanked stakeholders for their support; Kalukesh Narayan Singh Deo, President of the National Rifles Association of India, who addressed the gathering as Guest of Honour; and Peter Zohmangaiha, General Secretary of the Mizoram Rifles Association, who presented the event report.
