Aizawl: A high-level review meeting was held today at the Secretariat Conference Hall, MINECO, Aizawl, to finalise preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to inaugurate the Sairang Railway Station.
The meeting was chaired by Home Minister K. Sapdanga and attended by Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena, who presented detailed reports on the work being undertaken.
Senior officials including the Director General of Police, Principal Secretary (GAD), and heads of key departments such as PWD, Health & Family Welfare, Cooperation, Power & Electricity, Art & Culture, ICT, School Education, Horticulture, Planning & Programme Implementation, and Information & Public Relations, along with representatives of the North Eastern Frontier Railways, participated in the deliberations.
Home Minister Sapdanga underlined the historic importance of the Prime Minister’s visit, noting that the railway line would significantly enhance Mizoram’s links with the rest of India. He urged all departments to coordinate closely so that the programme is conducted smoothly and reflects the state’s readiness for this landmark occasion.
Preparations were reviewed across critical sites including Lengpui Airport, Sairang Railway Station, Thuampui Helipad, and Aizawl Lammual. Officials assessed security, medical duties, traffic management, public facilities, and venues for interaction with the Prime Minister.
The Sairang–Aizawl railway project covers a 51.38-kilometre stretch that will connect Mizoram’s capital with Assam’s Silchar, firmly placing the state on India’s railway map. The line features 48 tunnels, 55 major bridges, and 87 minor bridges. Among them is Bridge No. 144, standing at 104 metres high, which is expected to become the tallest pier railway bridge in the country.
