Aizawl: Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Tuesday met leaders of the Mizoram Rubber Society (MIRSO) at his office and approved their request for an additional 173 hectares under the Chief Minister’s Rubber Mission (2nd Phase).
During the meeting, MIRSO President Hrangzuala presented a report on the progress of works under the second phase of the Mission in Mamit District. He said local farmers were highly encouraged by the initiative and expressed a strong desire to expand cultivation. Although 400 hectares had initially been requested, MIRSO appealed for at least 173 hectares to be added, given current constraints.
The Chief Minister gave his consent to the request and instructed officials concerned to take immediate follow-up action. He also announced that the government will continue to support the sector by providing 100 rubber processing units and subsidies to strengthen rubber farming.
The 2nd Phase of the Rubber Mission covers a total of 2,400 hectares across the state, of which 1,200 hectares are being implemented with financial support from NABARD, while the remaining will be carried out under the Handholding Scheme. With today’s approval, the additional 173 hectares requested by MIRSO will also be taken up under the Handholding component, bringing its coverage to 1,373 hectares.
