Aizawl: The Mizoram State Level and Aizawl District Level events for the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign) were held today in Aizawl, drawing around 600 students from various schools and colleges for an anti-drug rally. Chief Minister Lalduhoma attended the event, which aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug use.
The rally began from two locations, Chanmari and Sikulpuikawn, before converging at Lammual, where a public meeting was organised. The Chief Minister joined the march from Chanmari, walking alongside students to the main venue.
Addressing the gathering, Lalduhoma noted that Mizoram’s location near the Golden Triangle makes it vulnerable to drug trafficking, with narcotics frequently entering through the state’s borders. He stressed that drugs do no good to society, and even though they may be within reach, they should never be used. He urged people to be brave enough to shun even those who sell them in secret, stressing that such offenders should receive due punishment. “The public must stand united to protect our people against this menace. Our youth should never try any kind of drugs—trying them is stepping into a trap. Even those already caught in addiction must be bold enough to step out,” he said.
Health Minister Lalrinpuii and Excise & Narcotics Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar also addressed the gathering, reiterating the government’s commitment to tackling drug abuse in the state.
Students carried placards with anti-drug messages and chanted slogans during the march. A placard-making competition was organised as part of the programme, and prizes were distributed to the winners. Miss Vanlalnuntluangi, Miss Grand India, led the participants in taking an anti-drug pledge.
Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan is currently being implemented in 372 districts across India, including all districts in Mizoram. The five-year campaign, launched by the Central Ministry, focuses on preventing drug abuse, educating the public, and supporting those who wish to overcome addiction.
