Aizawl: Andrew Lalchhandama, son of C. Vanlaltluanga of Nursery Veng, Aizawl, has successfully qualified for the Indian Information Service (IIS), marking the first Mizo selection into the service in nearly twenty years.
The results, declared today by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), confirmed Andrew’s inclusion in the central civil service, which plays a vital role in shaping the Government of India’s public communication and media outreach.
An alumnus of Mizoram University, Andrew completed his Master’s degree in Mass Communication (2012–2014) and is currently pursuing his PhD in the same field. His academic and professional journey has been deeply rooted in media, and he currently serves as Assistant News Editor at the Regional News Unit, Doordarshan Kendra, Aizawl. Beyond editorial duties, he is also a news anchor and program host, and is a familiar face to television viewers across the state. He is also a member of the Mizoram Journalist Association.
In a statement released today, Mizoram University expressed immense pride in Andrew’s achievement. “Mizoram University is truly honoured to celebrate Andrew’s remarkable achievement. His success is a source of inspiration, appreciation, and encouragement for all who know him. Congratulations, Andrew!” the university stated.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma also congratulated Andrew via his official Instagram account, writing:
“Congratulations to Shri Andrew Lalchhandama, s/o C. Vanlaltluanga of Nursery Veng, Aizawl, on being selected to the Indian Information Service (IIS) through UPSC.
